Quintana Neotropical Bird Sanctuary
814 Lamar Street, Quintana, TX 77541

The Neotropical Bird Sanctuary is owned by the Town of Quintana and the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory (GCBO).   It opened in 1994 with the Town's purchase of a small tract of land across from the Town Hall and a grant through Partners in Flight.   The sanctuary is a popular birding spot with trails, ponds and park benches and allows easy access and close viewing of migratory birds.   The Town also owns Xeriscape Park which is within walking distance to the east.

Through the Great Texas Birding Classic, a group sponsored by The Dow Chemical Company, won second place and $15,000 to be used for land acquisition.   Volunteers from the Brazosport Birders and Naturalists, GCBO and other groups assist the Town in maintaining and improving the sanctuary and Xeriscape Park.   Grants from Freeport LNG have been used for improvements at both parks including the observation tower at the Neotropical Sanctuary.
